Mulhollan.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wright State University\u2019s third president, Paige E. Mulhollan (1934\u20132012) was remembered on campus Friday, October 5, at a memorial that included Mulhollan\u2019s wife Mary Bess, his son Paige, Jr., and many current and former Wright State faculty, staff and alumni.<\/p>\n<p>Mulhollan, who served from 1985 to 1994, is best remembered as a dynamic visionary who forged the university\u2019s dedication to service and leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Mulhollan was a visionary. He recognized the importance of research excellence and community service as integral to the academic experience of our students,\u201d said current Wright State University President David R. Hopkins. \u201cPaige ushered in the full university experience for our students\u00a0with his focus on the Student Union, campus housing and the Wright State University Nutter\u00a0Center. Mulhollan\" width=\"260\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14257\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paige Mulhollan is remembered on campus as a dynamic but \u201claid-back\u201d president who took time to personally interact with faculty, staff and students.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>During his presidency, the College of Science and Engineering split to form the College of Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Science and Mathematics; the Center for Teaching and Learning opened to assist faculty development in teaching; Wright State athletics moved to NCAA Division I and on-campus housing expanded to accommodate nearly 2,000 students.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, the university hosted the first national conference of metropolitan universities and launched the journal for member institutions. Annual research funding at Wright State also topped $20 million During Mulhollan\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Mulhollan also helped launch the Wright STEPP program in partnership with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton Public Schools and local corporations.
