For 12 hours, they danced,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>played games, cheered on Miracle<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Kids<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and pushed through the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>final moments<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on tired feet. When the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>final<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>numbers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>were revealed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at midnight Saturday, it made every<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>moment of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Wright State University\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>dance marathon worth it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Raiderthon<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>raised more than $59,000<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>for Dayton Children\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Hospital,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the second-highest total in the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>event’s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>13-year history<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u2014 pushing<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>its<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>cumulative total to more than $600,000.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhen the final fundraising total is revealed, it\u2019s an emotional and celebratory moment,\u201d said Alyssa Zizelman, a physiology and neuroscience major who serves as executive director of Miracle Makers, the student organization behind the event. \u201cEveryone comes together to see the impact of their hard work over the past year, and it\u2019s truly unforgettable.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Held March 28 in the Student Union\u2019s Apollo Room on Wright State\u2019s Dayton Campus,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Raiderthon<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>drew approximately 100 participants.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The event\u2019s signature moment came when six \u201cMiracle Kids\u201d and their families took the stage to share their stories. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cOne of the most meaningful moments each year is hearing from Miracle Families and seeing the direct impact of our efforts,\u201d said<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Alyssa Zizelman, a physiology and neuroscience major who serves as executive director of Miracle Makers. \u201cIt\u2019s a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Throughout the 12-hour marathon, students kept spirits high through musical chairs, lip-sync battles, Zumba, a \u201cpie in the face\u201d fundraiser and a \u201cTime Out Corner\u201d challenge. The night closed with a silent disco, a rave hour and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the midnight<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>reveal.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Funds raised are donated to Dayton Children\u2019s Hospital to support critical programs, life-saving treatments,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>equipment<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and patient care initiatives, with an emphasis on reducing barriers for families with the greatest financial need.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Raiderthon<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sponsors included 7 Brew, Marion\u2019s Pizza, Walmart, Sam\u2019s Club and Nothing Bundt Cakes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
