Wright State University received the Better Business Bureau of Greater Dayton\u2019s 16<\/span>th<\/span> annual Community Honor Award, sponsored by IGS Energy. The award recognizes government, nonprofit or education organizations that have proven their commitment to making a positive impact on the evolution of the Miami Valley. <\/span><\/p>\n

The university was honored for its intentional and deliberate effort to prepare students to enter the regional workforce, continuous support of local nonprofits and volunteer efforts to strengthen the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through actively reviewing curriculum and courses, connecting students with internship opportunities and regularly partnering with regional stakeholders \u2014 such as Premier Health, YMCA, Dayton Public Schools, Dayton Development Coalition, local chambers of commerce and more \u2014 Wright State graduates are ready to immediately make an impact in their communities, contributing to Dayton\u2019s overall growth.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since Wright State\u2019s\u00a0inception, over 140,000 degrees have been awarded, with\u00a0nearly 110,000\u00a0alumni\u00a0residing\u00a0in the Miami Valley.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWright State serves nearly 12,000 students whose learning and impact extend across the Miami Valley,\u201d said\u202fWright State President\u202fSue\u202fEdwards. \u201cOur work is shaped by the communities we serve, as our employees, students,\u00a0alumni\u00a0and partners live and work throughout the region, supporting schools, nonprofits and community\u00a0needs\u00a0every day. Together, we prepare graduates who stay,\u00a0serve\u00a0and strengthen the communities they call home.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alongside serving its students, Wright State provides significant support to various area organizations, including the YMCA of Greater Dayton, Girls on the Run and the Dayton Regional STEM School. The university is a proud sponsor of the annual United States Air Force Marathon and other community events and offers facility spaces at no cost to nonprofit entities.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

University employees\u00a0also\u00a0give back to the community\u00a0by providing their time and talents through We Serve U<\/a>, the university\u2019s volunteer organization, participating in opportunities such as volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the annual 4 Paws 5K, which raises funds for training and placing life-changing service dogs with children and veterans, facilitating donation drives and adopting families during the holidays.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWright State University\u2019s application for the honor rose to the top this year,\u201d said Christy Mauch, the BBB of Greater Dayton\u2019s interim president and CEO. \u201cThe university mirrors the definition of the honor, and we are thrilled to recognize its efforts and the impact it makes on our community. It\u2019s more than a center for education \u2014 it\u2019s a driving force for innovation, collaboration and economic growth.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
