{"id":166628,"date":"2026-06-26T16:49:02","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T20:49:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=166628"},"modified":"2026-06-26T16:49:14","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T20:49:14","slug":"wright-state-board-of-trustees-approves-balanced-budget-reflecting-financial-strength-and-stability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2026\/06\/26\/wright-state-board-of-trustees-approves-balanced-budget-reflecting-financial-strength-and-stability\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State Board of Trustees approves balanced budget reflecting financial strength and stability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2019\/06\/21\/wright-state-university-board-of-trustees-approves-2019-20-budget-on-an-interim-basis\/wright-state-logo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-69862\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-69862 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2019\/06\/wright-state-logo-260x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a>The Wright State University Board of Trustees approved a balanced university budget plan today that reflects the university\u2019s fiscal strength, stability and commitment to continued investment in students and programs.<\/p>\n<p>The fiscal year 2027 budget, approved unanimously on June 26, builds on Wright State\u2019s momentum by continuing to invest in strategic priorities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/sites\/www.wright.edu\/files\/2026-06\/FY27%20Budget%20Presentation_1.pdf\">View the FY27 budget presentation (PDF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State President Sue Edwards said the budget reflects the university\u2019s focus on student success, career preparation and meeting the needs of the region\u2019s employers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis budget reflects our commitment to creating opportunities for our students and meaningful partnerships that drive economic growth throughout the region,\u201d Edwards said. \u201cWe continue to invest in our people, programs and facilities to further strengthen Wright State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The university expects unrestricted revenue of approximately $371 million, including $68 million in state financial support, during fiscal year 2027, which runs from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Unrestricted university expenditures are projected to be $371 million and include investments in program expansions and student success initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The budget presentation highlighted Wright State\u2019s continued financial health, with university reserves growing from $106 million in fiscal year 2021 to more than $188 million at the end of fiscal year 2025<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And for the third consecutive year, the university received a perfect Senate Bill 6 composite score of 5.0, the highest score possible under Ohio\u2019s financial health reporting system for public universities.<\/p>\n<p>Beth Ferris, chair of the Finance, Audit, Governance and Compliance Committee, said the budget demonstrates the university\u2019s continued commitment to responsible financial stewardship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe board is committed to ensuring Wright State remains financially strong and well-positioned to serve our students,\u201d she said. \u201cThis budget supports the university\u2019s strategic priorities while maintaining the fiscal responsibilities that students, families and taxpayers expect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Thompson, interim chair of the Board of Trustees, pointed to Edwards\u2019 focus on recruitment, retention and relationships as a driver of Wright State\u2019s momentum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis university, under President Edwards\u2019 leadership, continues to build on its recent successes by focusing on student success and prioritizing meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, including Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Premier Health and Dayton Children\u2019s,\u201d Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>Edwards expressed optimism for the upcoming academic year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work of the last several years has put us in a position to focus on what matters most \u2014 our students, programs and partnerships that make this region thrive,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>State capital funding supports campus improvements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Through Ohio\u2019s capital budget, Wright State will receive nearly $12.4 million to support facility and infrastructure improvements and technology upgrades across its Dayton and Lake campuses. The projects will help modernize campus facilities, enhance safety and reliability and support academic, research and workforce development programs.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State also received $450,000 in state funding to help preserve its Wright Brothers Collection, one of the world\u2019s most extensive repositories of Wright family artifacts.
