The Foodbank organized a mass food distribution at the Wright State University Nutter Center on Aug. 27, attracting 2,627 people and distributing thousands of 103,860 pounds of food.<\/p>\n
Over 70 volunteers from CareSource, SICSA, Five Rivers Health Centers and Wright State men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams distributed fresh produce, proteins, grains and pet food.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just think it\u2019s always important to give back,\u201d said Isaiah Williams, a redshirt freshman guard on the men\u2019s basketball team who attended Beavercreek High School, just a few miles from Wright State\u2019s Dayton Campus. \u201cGrowing up here, this community has treated me well, so why not return the favor?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know that everybody is squeezed by high prices right now,\u201d said Amber Wright, development director at The Foodbank. \u201cIf these groceries can help a family breathe easy and stretch until their next check, we consider that a win.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Foodbank distribution began just before 10 a.m. and continued until noon, serving 849 families during the more than two-hour event.<\/p>\n
