The Wright State University and Premier Health Partners Neuroscience Institute will present its first annual neuroscience institute symposium,\u00a0\u201cSelected Topics in Translational Neuroscience,\u201d on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Nutter Center Berry Room on the campus of Wright State University. A reception will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. before the formal program begins at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
Presentations will explore the underlying mechanisms for the development of epilepsy, indications and outcomes for the surgical treatment of epilepsy, the interventional treatment options for acute stroke management and the mechanism of neurological involvement in critical illness.<\/p>\n

Genetic Epilepsies and GABAA Receptor Mutations Clinical Perspectives in Epilepsy\u00a0Surgery Interventional Management\u00a0of Stroke Ion Channel Dysfunction During Critical Illness Launched in 2010, the Wright State University and Premier Health Partners Neuroscience Institute represents a groundbreaking collaboration that leverages some of the Dayton region\u2019s greatest strengths to address many of its most crucial needs. Designated as a University System of Ohio Center of Excellence, this public-private partnership unites the region\u2019s most advanced biomedical research institution with the clinical resources of its leading hospital system.<\/p>\n Ken Gaines, M.D., M.B.A., has been recruited to serve as institute codirector and to lead the institute\u2019s new team of clinical neurologists. A subspecialist in vascular neurology, Gaines came to the Neuroscience Institute from the Ochsner Clinic and Foundation in New Orleans, where he served as chair of the Department of Neurology.<\/p>\n Gaines joins director Tim Cope, Ph.D., Brage Golding Distinguished Professor of Research and chair of the Department of Neuroscience, Cell Biology and Physiology, who oversaw the founding of the institute.
