She just took a left into the family room.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24023\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/09\/15\/no-place-like-home\/11878jim-hannah-freyja-turner-for-student-profile-7-26-13\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-24023\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24023\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-24023\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2013\/09\/Freyja1-260x173.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-24023\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Turner is enrolled in Wright State\u2019s Raj Soin College of Business, and is majoring in human resource management.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Turner, a sophomore business major at Wright State, was home schooled for much of her life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing home schooled was definitely different because with your parents teaching you, they expect a lot more of you, I think,\u201d Turner said. \u201cI think that definitely helped me in many subjects because I knew I had to try my best in order to make my mom and dad happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being home schooled had both benefits and drawbacks.<\/p>\n<p>Since she and her sisters didn\u2019t have to travel to school, Turner could sleep in a little later than her friends. But Turner was also usually done with school earlier in the day since her time wasn\u2019t taken up with class changes, transport and other non-academic activities. That left Turner waiting for her friends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a little bit lonely,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>And making the transition from home schooling to Beavercreek High School was a big change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was scary at first, but I got used to it,\u201d Turner said. \u201cAnd I really liked my teachers there; they were a positive influence. And I really liked a lot of my classes, especially the AP and Honors ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also got interested in business, taking marketing and management classes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_24024\" style=\"width: 209px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/09\/15\/no-place-like-home\/11878jim-hannah-freyja-turner-for-student-profile-7-26-13-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-24024\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24024\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-24024\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2013\/09\/Freyja2-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-24024\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">When she is not studying, Turner works as an office assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences. She also plans to get involved in the University Activities Board.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI really liked them and I did well in them,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I liked the teacher, who helped influence me to go into business in college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turner enrolled in Wright State\u2019s Raj Soin College of Business, majoring in human resource management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to deal with people,\u201d she said. \u201cI know a lot of human-resources people get a bad rep; a lot of people don\u2019t like the human-resource department. That\u2019s something I want to change because I think it\u2019s really focused on paperwork and I want it to be a lot more focused on the person aspect of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turner is also especially interested in the legal and labor relations part of human resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re trying to just separate all disputes between employers and employees and just even everything out and make sure everything\u2019s worked out and try to make sure people are where they want to be so they can get the job done well and be happy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>When she is not studying, Turner works as an office assistant in the Department of Biological Sciences. She also plans to get involved in the University Activities Board.<\/p>\n<p>Turner said she is glad she decided to come to Wright State. She enjoys the smaller classes and more personal style of teaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really want to be lectured to; I want to be talked to,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I want to talk with the professor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turner also feels comfortable in the Honors Program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really like a second home to me just because all the people were so welcoming and very much like me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Kind of like home schooling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Freyja Turner went to class growing up, she didn\u2019t have far to go.
