{"id":25537,"date":"2013-11-18T06:00:38","date_gmt":"2013-11-18T10:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=25537"},"modified":"2013-11-14T12:38:42","modified_gmt":"2013-11-14T16:38:42","slug":"winter-weather-preparedness-at-wright-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/11\/18\/winter-weather-preparedness-at-wright-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter weather preparedness at Wright State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/11\/18\/winter-weather-preparedness-at-wright-state\/_dsc5498\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25540\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-25540\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2013\/11\/DSC5498-508x336.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a>Winter weather season is upon us whether we want it or not.\u00a0The recent blast of arctic temperatures and overnight snow gave us all a wake-up call to make final winter weather preparations.<\/p>\n<p>The State of Ohio Winter Safety Awareness Week is Nov. 17\u201323.\u00a0This week-long preparedness campaign is intended to help all Ohioans prepare for winter weather.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/11\/18\/winter-weather-preparedness-at-wright-state\/_dsc5594-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25542\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-25542\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2013\/11\/DSC5594-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Driving to campus and entering buildings are commonplace activities that we tend to execute with little thought during temperate seasons, but they can become dangerous activities worth your full attention during the winter weather season.<\/p>\n<p>The Wright State community benefits from the tunnels once it commutes to campus, but when and how to drive to campus can often be the biggest hurdle to overcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen winter weather arrives, you need to decide whether it is safe for you to drive\u2014consider your winter driving skills, the road conditions in your area and not just road conditions at the university,\u201d reminds Kimberly Nagel, emergency management administrator.\u00a0\u201cYour safety is much more important than being on time to work or making a class.\u00a0Communicate with your supervisor or professor if your attendance will be impacted by the weather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/11\/18\/winter-weather-preparedness-at-wright-state\/_dsc5584\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25541\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-25541\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2013\/11\/DSC5584-260x172.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a>Some other good tips to keep in mind include being mindful that four-wheel drive doesn\u2019t help you any more when driving on ice. Drivers of four-wheel drive vehicles can suffer from \u201csnowver-confidence\u201d in winter weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>If you get stranded in a snowstorm, the best plan is to stay with your vehicle.
