{"id":26830,"date":"2014-01-15T14:39:04","date_gmt":"2014-01-15T18:39:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=26830"},"modified":"2014-01-15T14:39:05","modified_gmt":"2014-01-15T18:39:05","slug":"wright-state-set-to-scoop-local-flavors-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2014\/01\/15\/wright-state-set-to-scoop-local-flavors-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State set to scoop local flavors on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/07\/01\/hospitality-services\/fork\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-22499\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-22499\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2013\/07\/Fork-260x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a>The Wright State University community will soon be able to purchase one of the region\u2019s favorite treats\u2014ice cream from Young\u2019s Jersey Dairy, a 144-year old dairy farm that has become one of the Miami Valley\u2019s leading attractions.<\/p>\n<p>Chartwells, the company providing campus dining services for Wright State Hospitality Services, will introduce half pints of select flavors to campus this semester at the Union Market inside the Student Union and at Wright State University\u2019s Nutter Center as a concessions and catering offering.<\/p>\n<p>The Wright State community can sample Young\u2019s Homemade Ice Cream flavors, along with new Pepsi and Frito Lay products, at a \u201cTaste of Wright State\u201d event scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or while supplies last in the Student Union Atrium.\u00a0 The event is free and open to all students, faculty and staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to add a local favorite like Young\u2019s Ice Cream to campus,\u201d said John Miller, director of hospitality services at Wright State\u2019s Nutter Center. \u201cI think anyone who has lived in the region long enough to have made the trip to Young\u2019s Jersey Dairy will immediately smile when they see this product on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Young\u2019s announcement is just the latest in a string of new dining options that began last semester and continue into 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Well-known restaurant\/shops include Jamba Juice, Seattle\u2019s Best Coffee, Denny\u2019s All-Nighter, Pizza Hut Express, Au Bon Pain Soup, Caribou Coffee and Starbucks. In addition, dining venues have begun emphasizing freshly prepared food concepts such as wraps, Italian dishes, hand-breaded chicken, frozen yogurt, Mexican fare, sub sandwiches and sushi. Innovation Kitchen Ohio offers interactive cooking with local ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>At the Wright State Nutter Center, new concepts including a pizza location have joined the existing Fricker\u2019s and Speedway brands.<\/p>\n<p>The new Student Commons Building, expected to open in 2015, will feature signature platforms such as myPantry, Eat Learn Live, The Kitchen, Outtakes, Fresh Market and Baker\u2019s Crust.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement reaffirms the Young family\u2019s already strong ties to the university. Dan Young, CEO of Young\u2019s Jersey Dairy, is an alumnus.
