Along the way, the marchers Chinese-dragoned through the Union Market cafeteria to the surprise and delight of diners.<\/p>\n<p>Dana Patterson, Ph.D., director\/lecturer of the Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center, said the goal of the march was to use the momentum of the civil rights movement to raise awareness about current issues such as human trafficking, equal transportation and affordable health care.<\/p>\n<p>King\u2014a clergyman, activist and prominent leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement\u2014received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end racial discrimination. He was assassinated in 1968. In 1986, Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established as a U.S. federal holiday.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional outdoor march at Wright State was scrapped due to the subzero wind-chill temperatures. The tunnel route enabled the group to touch different parts of the campus community and pick up a few marchers along the way.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_27023\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2014\/01\/23\/wright-state-students-faculty-staff-take-to-the-campus-tunnels-to-honor-martin-luther-king-jr\/mlk03_2014\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-27023\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27023\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-27023\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2014\/01\/MLK03_2014-260x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-27023\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The MLK march concluded in the Student Union with a rally and discussion.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The marchers carried signs bearing phrases such as \u201cWe Must Learn to Live Together as Brothers and Sisters, or Perish as Fools.\u201d The narrow confines of the tunnels amplified the voices of the marchers as they sang \u201cWe shall overcome\u201d and \u201cBlack and white together, we shall not be moved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the rally in the Endeavour Room, the group broke into small groups and discussed issues and ideals such as King\u2019s dream, freedom, co-existence, African culture and the importance of education.<\/p>\n<p>Sukhmanjit Singh, president of Wright State Student Government, urged those at the gathering to become activists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMartin Luther King Jr. had a dream, but he also had an action to complete his dream,\u201d Singh said. \u201cThe dream is not complete yet and probably won\u2019t be for awhile. But what has to happen is there have to be activists in each generation to complete that dream.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright State President David R.
