The Boonshoft School of Medicine chapter has hosted blood drives since 2007. In 2013, the Community Blood Center recognized the chapter for its blood drive results by naming it a Sliver Partner in the Life Saving Ambassadors Club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe strive to uphold the ideals of our future medical profession by serving our community,\u201d said Lauren Welch, event organizer and second-year medical student. \u201cBy organizing events such as the blood drive, we are able to contribute to the life-saving endeavors of our neighbors at the Community Blood Center while also educating ourselves and our colleagues about the importance of blood donation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.donortime.com\">www.donortime.com<\/a>; enter the sponsor code 228. At registration, all potential donors will need to present a photo ID, such as a driver\u2019s license or school ID that shows the donor\u2019s full name.<\/p>\n<p>Blood donors must be 17 or older, weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. They should not have any cold or flu symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Most medications that are taken for maintenance, including blood pressure, thyroid, cholesterol, allergies, hormones and diabetes, are acceptable. Those who have any questions about their eligibility to donate should e-mail <a href=\"mailto:canidonate@cbccts.org\">canidonate@cbccts.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Blood donors should plan to spend 45 minutes to one hour completing the entire donation process.
