Three Wright State players were recognized by the Horizon League as the postseason honors were announced on Sunday by the league office. LaShawna Thomas was named to the First Team, Molly Fox to the Second Team and Shaunda Sandifer to the All-Newcomer Team.<\/p>\n
Thomas (Columbus, OH\/Eastmoor Academy) currently ranks second in the conference in scoring at 18.5 points per game and is the league leader in assists per game at 5.7. She has scored in double figures in 27 games this season, including a career-high 35 against Youngstown State on February 19. Thomas has scored 20 or more in game 11 times, with eight of those coming in league play. The senior guard dished out a career-best 10 assists at Ball State on November 14 and matched that total against Central Florida on December 22. Overall, she recorded five or more assists in a game 19 times.<\/p>\n
Thomas is second on the all-time Raider scoring list with 1575 and appears in the career top 10 list in games played, minutes, field goals made and attempted, three-pointers made and attempted and assists. Named to the All-Newcomer Team in 2008, Thomas becomes the first WSU player selected to the First Team since Shey Peddy in 2008.<\/p>\n
Fox (Nashville, IN\/Brown County) is the league leader in offensive rebounds per game at 3.7 and ranks second in overall rebounds at 9.5 per game, second in field goal percentage at .568, sixth in defensive rebounds per game at 5.7, seventh in scoring at 15.5 points per game and eighth in blocks per game at 0.9.<\/p>\n
The junior forward has scored in double figures 22 times this season with 13 of those coming in league play, including a career-best 28 against Detroit on January 15. Fox also has 10 double-figure rebound efforts, her high being 16 at Longwood on December 11, and has posted nine double-doubles.<\/p>\n
It is the second Horizon League postseason honor for Fox as she was chosen to the All-Newcomer Team in 2009.<\/p>\n
Sandifer (Calumet City, IL\/Thornton Fractional North) joined the program this season after a stellar four-year career for the WSU volleyball team, one that saw her earned All-Horizon League honors in each of her final three seasons. She currently ranks seventh in the league in overall rebounding at 8.7 per contest, fifth in defensive rebounds at 5.9 per game and sixth in offensive rebounds at 2.9 per game.<\/p>\n
After scoring 13 in her debut at Delaware State on November 21, Sandifer scored 19 points at Loyola on February 24, had 11 against Youngstown State on February 19 and 10 at Milwaukee on December 31. She reached double figures in rebounds 10 times with eight of those coming in conference play, including 16 against Loyola on January 29.<\/p>\n
With the naming of Sandifer, 11 Raiders have been selected to the All-Newcomer Team since Wright State joined the league in 1994-95.<\/p>\n
Wright State (18-11, 11-7 Horizon) will open play in the Horizon League Championship on Wednesday, March 9, as the #4 seed Raiders host #5 seed Milwaukee in the quarterfinals at 7:00. The semifinals will be on Friday, March 11, at the site of the highest remaining seed, with the final set for 1:00 Eastern on Sunday, March 13, at the semifinal site. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.<\/p>\n
