{"id":28800,"date":"2014-03-20T07:11:17","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T11:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=28800"},"modified":"2022-09-26T11:00:54","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T15:00:54","slug":"new-show-at-stein-galleries-features-works-by-high-school-art-teachers-and-their-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2014\/03\/20\/new-show-at-stein-galleries-features-works-by-high-school-art-teachers-and-their-students\/","title":{"rendered":"New show at Stein Galleries features works by high school art teachers and their students"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_28853\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2014\/03\/20\/new-show-at-stein-galleries-features-works-by-high-school-art-teachers-and-their-students\/high-school-art-show-13326-014\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-28853\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28853\" class=\"size-large wp-image-28853\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2014\/03\/high-school-art-show-13326-014-499x700.jpg\" alt=\"Furniture design artworks\" width=\"460\" height=\"645\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-28853\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Satellite&#8221; by Miami Valley School teacher Rob Gartzka (center) and works by his students Noland Robinson (left) and Sarah Gaglione are included in the Stein Galleries.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Works by area teachers are displayed alongside art created by their students in a unique exhibition at Wright State University\u2019s Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries.<\/p>\n<p><em>Teacher and Student Regional High School Exhibition<\/em> is on display Wednesday, March 19, to Sunday, March 30.<\/p>\n<p>A closing reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held 2:30\u20134 p.m. on March 30.<\/p>\n<p>The show includes 51 artworks from 13 high schools: Alter, Bellbrook, Belmont, Butler, Dayton Regional STEM School, Kettering Fairmont, Miami Valley School, Northmont, Springboro, Stebbins, Stivers, West Carrollton and Xenia. Students in grades nine through 12 participated in the show.<\/p>\n<p>A number of the teachers in the exhibition are graduates of Wright State\u2019s Art and Art History program.<\/p>\n<p>The show includes ceramics, painting, illustration, photography, printmaking, furniture design and fiber arts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very impressed with the variety of media and the overall quality of work and the kinds of things being done in high school art departments,\u201d said Glen Cebulash, chair of the Department of Art and Art History.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first year the Department of Art and Art History has hosted this kind of exhibition. Faculty hope to make it an annual event.<\/p>\n<p>The art teachers in the show selected works by their students to display alongside theirs. Cebulash said he is not aware of any other exhibition of its kind in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe teachers are excited because they do get to show their work alongside their students,\u201d said Ben Montague, associate professor and chair of the exhibition committee.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit isn\u2019t the only opportunity high school students have to get involved in the Wright State arts program. The Department of Art and Art History also offers a six-week Arts Academy for high school students during the Fall and Spring Semesters. For more information on the academy, contact Jesse Thomas at <a href=\"mailto:jesse.thomas@wright.edu\">jesse.thomas@wright.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The final show of the semester at the Stein Galleries is the <em>2014 Senior Thesis Exhibition<\/em>, which will be on display April 16\u2013May 4.<\/p>\n<p>Gallery hours are Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. All gallery events are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Visitor parking on campus is free, and parking at the Creative Arts Center is unrestricted after 4:30 p.m. Fridays and weekends.
