The chapter\u2019s sponsoring institutions include Miami University, University of Cincinnati, University of Dayton and Wright State University.<\/p>\n<p>James Olson, Ph.D., professor of emergency medicine, director of research laboratories and professor of neuroscience, cell biology and physiology at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.med.wright.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine<\/a>, is the chapter president. \u201cThirty years ago, more than 70 percent of neuroscience graduates pursued careers in academic science,\u201d Olson said. \u201cNow, less than 50 percent go into academic science.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From science writing to pharmaceutical research, attendees will learn about non-academic careers in science. Speakers include Jon Hamilton, correspondent for National Public Radio\u2019s Science Desk; Christopher Thomas, Ph.D., science writer for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health; and Joel Beetsch, Ph.D., vice president, patient advocacy, Celgene, and a Wright State biomedical sciences Ph.D. graduate.<\/p>\n<p>The event also will include panel discussions and workshops, including a session about preparing for job interviews.<\/p>\n<p>Registration is free.
