Brody McDonald, director of Wright State\u2019s ETHOS ensemble, will organize Camp A Cappella at Wright State again this summer. The contemporary a cappella singing camp will run June 23\u201328.<\/p><\/div>\n

Wright State University will host Camp A Cappella, a camp for collegiate\u00a0and\u00a0high school students adults and professionals designed to help develop and further their singing and a cappella skills.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2013, Camp A Cappella will return to Wright State June 23\u201328.<\/p>\n

Camp A Cappella was started by Deke Sharon, the voice producer for the popular movie \u201cPitch Perfect\u201d and the TV show \u201cThe Sing Off,\u201d and Brody McDonald, nationally recognized leader in a cappella education. The camp\u2019s faculty also includes music educators, choral directors, successful composers and arrangers and award-winning singers.<\/p>\n

Sharon founded the House Jacks A Cappella Group and the Contemporary A Cappella Society. A prolific arranger, Sharon has produced dozens of award-winning a cappella albums, created a cappella groups for Disneyland and Disneyworld and frequently tours the world teaching students and professional singers.<\/p>\n

McDonald teaches a cappella singing at Wright State, where he directs the student ensemble ETHOS. He serves as vice president of the A Cappella Education Association and is author of \u201cA Cappella Pop: A Comprehensive Guide to Contemporary A Cappella Singing.\u201d<\/p>\n

McDonald is also director of choirs at Kettering Fairmont High School in Dayton. He manages Eleventh Hour, a high school group that competed on \u201cThe Sing-Off\u2019s\u201d second season. Eleventh Hour has performed with international artists Kenny Rogers, LeAnn Rimes and Rockapella.<\/p>\n

Camp A Cappella\u2019s faculty includes successful composers, award-winning singers, music educators and choral directors like Joe Whatley, a Wright State alumnus and director of Vega at Chaminade-Julienne High School.<\/p><\/div>\n

He\u00a0described the camp as the biggest of its kind in the nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that hosting Camp A Cappella helps to further the international reputation of the great choral program that we have at Wright State,\u201d said Hank Dahlman, director of choral studies and the Ohio Center of Excellence in Collaborative Education, Leadership and Innovation in the Arts (CELIA)<\/a>. \u201cAnd each year, it\u2019s great to have singers from all over the world here on campus for a week of incredible music making under the direction of the top a cappella directors anywhere.”<\/p>\n
