Students who need to fulfill service-learning requirements can find plenty of opportunities during the Volunteer Fair Sept. 11 in the Student Union.<\/p><\/div>\n

More than 30 Miami Valley nonprofits are expected to participate in Wright State\u2019s Volunteer Fair on Friday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Atrium.<\/p>\n

Now in its fourth year, the We Serve U<\/a> Volunteer Fair upholds Wright State’s mission to \u201ctransform the lives of our students and the communities we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fair encourages students to volunteer with an organization that fits their diverse interests or complete volunteer hours for classes or scholarships. Faculty and staff have an opportunity to volunteer and learn about the various needs in the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cNonprofit organizations always need volunteers,\u201d said Joanie Hendricks, data analyst at Wright State and We Serve U <\/b>co-chair. \u201cBeing able to reach such a large audience in a few hours provides a good opportunity for the organization. We have such a variety of talent at WSU that can fill many different needs for the nonprofit organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Students are in a position to use their talents to help those in need,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Participating organizations include the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, Catholic Social Services, Five Rivers MetroParks, Project Read, Clothes That Work, Crayons to Classrooms and Adventures in Movement for the Handicapped.<\/p>\n

Limited space is available for nonprofit organizations to participate in the fair. Space is assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.<\/p>\n

“Community nonprofit organizations are always excited to make connections with WSU students, staff and faculty, and we are hoping for a really good turnout so that our community partners will come away from the event with a lot of contacts and a great feeling about Wright State,” said Becky Traxler, We Serve U <\/b>co-chair.<\/p>\n

Hendricks\u2019 favorite part about the fair is meeting the organizations and their representatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoy learning about their organization and talking with them about possible projects that we can work on together,\u201d she said. \u201cI also enjoy the diversity of the organizations. There is such a wide variety to choose from.\u201d<\/p>\n
