He went on to become class president at Stebbins High School as a freshman, sophomore and junior and president of the entire student body as a senior.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the 18-year-old Livesay \u2014 a freshman business student at Wright State University \u2014 has set his sights on higher office. He is running for City Council in his hometown of Riverside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always had an interest in politics growing up,\u201d said Livesay. \u201cIn high school, I was always involved. And now that I\u2019ve graduated high school, it\u2019s like, \u2018What\u2019s next?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Livesay grew up Riverside and currently resides there. His father is a city inspector for Kettering and his mother a secretary at Spinning Hills Middle School in Riverside.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38653\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2015\/10\/Wesley-Livesay-16343_010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38653\" class=\"size-large wp-image-38653\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2015\/10\/Wesley-Livesay-16343_010-508x372.jpg\" alt=\"Wesley Livesay standing in the Quad\" width=\"460\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-38653\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State business student Wesley Livesay is running for the City Council of Riverside and hopes to own his own business after college. (Photos by Erin Pence)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As a young man, Livesay was active in sports and an academic achiever. He took honors and Advanced Placement classes in high school and was in the Society for Academic Excellence.<\/p>\n<p>Livesay opted to come to Wright State in part because of the strong reputation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/business.wright.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Raj Soin College of Business<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always enjoyed the idea of owning my own business and operating it one day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A few months ago, Livesay was elected to Riverside\u2019s Health and Safety Commission and was encouraged to run for City Council. So he collected the necessary 100 signatures of registered voters to get his name on the ballot in the November election.<\/p>\n<p>There are two seats up for election on the seven-seat council and five candidates running for the four-year terms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has to start somewhere,\u201d he said. \u201cIf someone like myself who cares enough about Riverside and is determined enough, they can sometimes be as effective as someone who\u2019s been in there a long time and has more experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_38651\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2015\/10\/Wesley-Livesay-16343_009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38651\" class=\"size-large wp-image-38651\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2015\/10\/Wesley-Livesay-16343_009-508x351.jpg\" alt=\"Wesley Lives talking\" width=\"460\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-38651\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A first-year student Wesley Livesay enrolled in the Raj Soin College of Business to help learn how to operate his own business one day.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A city of more than 25,000, Riverside rubs up against Wright State and the National Museum of the United States Air Force. It is home to numerous technology, industrial, research and service-based business, surrounds Eastwood Metro Park and borders Huffman Metro Park.<\/p>\n<p>Livesay wants to improve the city\u2019s infrastructure and further develop its park system for youth soccer and baseball teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope I have the ability attract more young voters into the area,\u201d he said. \u201cBy increasing voter awareness, I think it betters the community all the way around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Livesay said that lawmakers are often so tied to their parties and entrenched in their beliefs that it is hard to get anything done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes in order to get the best results for the community \u2014 and in this case the nation \u2014 you have to put other people first and make a decision,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Livesay has been mingling with members of the community at fairs and festivals to try to create some name recognition.
