The Wright State women\u2019s volleyball<\/a> team\u2019s most impactful player has been on the bench for the last three years. Her name is Leah Van Beveren and she\u2019s only 12 years old.<\/p>\n

When Leah was just a few months old she was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, a rare form of cancer that rapidly develops from the immature cells of a retina. Leah has been cancer free for 11 years.<\/p>\n

A few years ago, Leah joined Team Impact<\/a>, an organization that places courageous kids with collegiate athletic teams. Leah\u2019s mother, Angela Van Beveren, said because of her daughter’s love for volleyball, it\u2019s been a perfect fit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s what she loves, plus the girls are great role models,\u201d Van Beveren said.<\/p>\n

The Raiders’ Oct. 30 game was Leah’s last game volunteering with the volleyball team since her family is moving to San Antonio next month.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited, \u201c said Leah. \u201cBeing able to bond with them has made me more confident. It\u2019s a new opportunity, and I will always be a Raider!\u201d<\/p>\n
