{"id":41420,"date":"2016-06-02T11:10:23","date_gmt":"2016-06-02T15:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=41420"},"modified":"2016-06-02T14:07:10","modified_gmt":"2016-06-02T18:07:10","slug":"dayton-regional-stem-school-seeks-grant-to-create-center-for-career-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2016\/06\/02\/dayton-regional-stem-school-seeks-grant-to-create-center-for-career-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Dayton Regional STEM School seeks grant to create center for career development"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_35664\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2015\/03\/05\/biographies-written-by-stem-students-may-result-in-new-state-historical-markers\/stem-school-10587-485\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-35664\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35664\" class=\"size-large wp-image-35664\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2015\/03\/STEM-School-10587-485-508x300.jpg\" alt=\"Dayton Regional STEM School students in classroom\" width=\"460\" height=\"272\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-35664\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Founded by Wright State in 2009, the Dayton Regional STEM School offers students a relevant, real-world education that prepares them for college and the working world.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Dayton Regional STEM School \u2014 co-founded by lead partner Wright State University \u2014 has applied for a state grant that would enable the STEM school to create a center for career development.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, in partnership with Wright State\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/center-for-workforce-development\/activity-centers\/center-for-manufacturing-sciences\">Center for Manufacturing Sciences<\/a>, is designed to enhance career opportunities in high-demand fields such as information technology, engineering and advanced manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>Winning the Straight A Fund grant would result in the formation of the DRSS Center for STEM Career Development.<\/p>\n<p>It would enable the school to create cutting-edge, hands-on learning spaces for students in grades six through 12. It would include an IT Collaboration Center and the Center for Manufacturing and Engineering Sciences and enable the school to award students with in-demand industry credentials prior to their graduation.<\/p>\n<p>The center would feature technology in lasers, electro-optics, 3D printing and micro-machining. Companies such as Midwest Photonics Education Center, Lunarline and Universal Technology Corp. would provide experts to enhance curriculum and projects.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State is a founding partner of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daytonstemschool.org\/\">STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) school<\/a> and the lead higher education partner. The Kettering school opened in 2009 and in June 2013 graduated its first class.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of five independent public STEM schools across Ohio. The schools are designed to offer students a relevant, real-world education that prepares them for college and the working world.
