One such resource is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wright.edu\/police\">Wright State Police Department<\/a>\u2019s free ALICE training.<\/p>\n<p>ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evaluate, which are the steps needed to follow in the case of an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Any Wright State student, staff or faculty member can participate in the two-hour training, which includes a classroom section of learning tactics and a scenario-based section to practice body form and mindset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe if someone is willing to take their own time to increase their awareness and preparedness for their personal safety, that is our obligation to make sure we do not delay that opportunity,\u201d said Wright State Police Captain David Ratliff.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State Chief of Police David Finnie described ALICE training as a practical program that is an easy to learn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou just want to stop the threat. It breaks down how people think. It gets into your paradigm and gets you thinking in how to protect yourself and not be a victim,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2013\/11\/18\/winter-weather-preparedness-at-wright-state\/wrtstalrt_fbprof\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-25539\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25539\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2013\/11\/WrtStAlrt_FBprof.jpg\" alt=\"Wright State Alert logo\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>Sign up for ALICE training by emailing Ratliff at <a href=\"mailto:david.ratliff@wright.edu\">david.ratliff@wright.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State police officers also participate in collaborative trainings with local police and fire departments twice a year. The <a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2016\/11\/08\/wright-state-police-department-receives-active-shooter-training\/\">most recent training<\/a> was conducted in October with the Fairborn Police and Fire departments.<\/p>\n<p>Residence Life and Housing staff regularly review emergency protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt can happen anywhere at any time,\u201d Finnie said. \u201cYou can\u2019t prevent it, so it\u2019s important that we be as prepared as possible for an active threat situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wright State also offers the Raider Guardian mobile phone app, safety escort by campus police and emergency blue light phones on campus. Approximately 30 blue emergency phones are located throughout the Dayton Campus.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2016\/09\/06\/wright-states-raider-guardian-app-a-handy-tool-for-staying-safe-on-campus\/\">Raider Guardian app<\/a> allows users to call university police at the touch of a button, text officers from their smartphones and have guardians virtually follow them across campus until they safely reach their destination with a safety app for smartphones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2015\/08\/24\/raider-guardian-wright-states-new-safety-app-set-to-launch-fall-semester\/raider-guardian-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-37690\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-37690\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2015\/08\/raider-guardian-2-169x300.png\" alt=\"Raider Guardian: Wright State's new safety app set to launch fall semester\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/police\/emergency-preparedness\/stay-informed\/university-emergency-notification-system-wright-state-alert\">Wright State Alert<\/a> is the university&#8217;s emergency notification system. It can send emails, text and voice messages to alert students, faculty and staff about emergencies as well as closures and delays at the Dayton and Lake campuses. It also activates announcements on the Wright State Alert <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wrightstalert\">Twitter<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WrightStateAlert\/\">Facebook<\/a> accounts and campus televisions and the university website.
