February was selected because it included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington, key figures in the history of African Americans. It was expanded from a week to a month in 1976.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State\u2019s events begin with an opening ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Millett Hall atrium. It will feature a talk titled \u201cFunny Thing Happened on the Way to Failure\u201d by Robert Owens, an educational consultant and TEDxDayton speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Other events:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 5<\/strong>: Screening of \u201cHidden Figures,\u201d 2-4:30 p.m. at Regal Cinemas, Beavercreek.
