On Aug. 11, over 500 families filed into the Wright State University Nutter Center parking lot. One by one the trunks of their cars were filled with fruits and vegetables that were grown by Ohio farmers.<\/p>\n
The Dayton Foodbank provided the produce, Caresource the volunteers and Wright State\u2019s Nutter Center the venue. This was the third consecutive year that Wright State welcomed the Dayton Foodbank\u2019s distribution pick up in Greene County.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople were lined up at 5:30 this morning,\u201d said Melissa Scarito a Caresource clinical quality specialist and mass distribution volunteer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWright State has been just awesome in helping us to ensure that hungry people get through these lines,\u201d said Cathy Ponitz, vice president of the Caresource Foundation.<\/p>\n
The Dayton Foodbank serves as the primary source of food for the hunger relief network in the Miami Valley.<\/p>\n
The event distributed 63,605 pounds of fresh produce to 570 families in need.<\/p>\n
