{"id":48344,"date":"2017-10-05T12:17:26","date_gmt":"2017-10-05T16:17:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=48344"},"modified":"2017-10-05T12:17:26","modified_gmt":"2017-10-05T16:17:26","slug":"journal-news-story-wright-state-partners-with-dea-to-highlight-dangers-of-opioids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2017\/10\/05\/journal-news-story-wright-state-partners-with-dea-to-highlight-dangers-of-opioids\/","title":{"rendered":"Journal-News story: Wright State partners with DEA to highlight dangers of opioids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Excerpt<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"text\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-48277\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2017\/10\/DEA-360-260x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"204\" \/>Wright State University is working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to host an event later this month.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<p>The DEA and WSU will host a summit at the Nutter Center on Oct. 16 to spotlight the dangers of opioids.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<p>Speakers will include Todd Crandell, founder of Racing for Recovery, an organization dedicated to preventing substance abuse and providing positive alternatives for those battling addiction.<\/p>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<p>The summit will also include Joe Piersante, a DEA agent wounded in Afghanistan and the first DEA agent to receive the Secretary of Defense Medal for the Defense of Freedom, according to Wright State.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<div id=\"attachment_39059\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39059\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-39059\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2010\/12\/16449-5075-260x173.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"173\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-39059\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State University Nutter Center<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Alexis Gomez, a Wright State graduate who gained popularity as a country singer on \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d will perform at the event.<\/p>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<p>At the summit the Nutter Center\u2019s concourse will be filled with vendors offering services and resources to prevent and treat opioid addiction, according to WSU.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<p>The DEA initiated its DEA 360 Strategy last year and implemented it in four cities struggling with the opioid crisis.
