{"id":48375,"date":"2017-10-09T11:06:33","date_gmt":"2017-10-09T15:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=48375"},"modified":"2017-10-09T16:37:56","modified_gmt":"2017-10-09T20:37:56","slug":"wounded-warrior-amputee-softball-team-returns-to-wright-state-for-fundraising-exhibition-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2017\/10\/09\/wounded-warrior-amputee-softball-team-returns-to-wright-state-for-fundraising-exhibition-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team returns to Wright State for fundraising exhibition games"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_48378\" style=\"width: 245px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2017\/10\/09\/wounded-warrior-amputee-softball-team-returns-to-wright-state-for-fundraising-exhibition-games\/wounded-warrior-softball-team\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-48378\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48378\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-48378\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2017\/10\/wounded-warrior-softball-team-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-48378\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team exhibition games at Wright State&#8217;s Nischwitz Stadium on Oct. 14 at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team \u2014 athletic military veterans and active-duty soldiers who have lost limbs \u2014 will play exhibition games at Wright State University to raise money for a Fisher House project and Honor Flight.<\/p>\n<p>The two games, co-sponsored by the Veteran and Military Center at Wright State, will be played on campus at Nischwitz Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Suggested donation for admission is $5.<\/p>\n<p>Donations and proceeds from the games will go toward the new Fisher House project on the grounds of the Dayton VA Medical Center. Fisher Houses provide a compassionate-care environment for military families to stay together during times of medical emergencies or crises.<\/p>\n<p>The games will also benefit Honor Flight\u2013Dayton, a nationally known veterans program started in Enon, Ohio, to transport World War II veterans to the National WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. The flights expanded in recent years to include U.S. veterans from the Korean and Vietnam wars.<\/p>\n<p>The first game will pit the Wounded Warriors against a team of military all-stars from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the surrounding area. The second game will have all-stars from the Dayton Legends Softball Club challenging the Wounded Warriors.<\/p>\n<p>Between games, there will be a salute to veterans service organizations, including The American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, AmVets and others.<\/p>\n<p>This will be the second year the Wounded Warriors have played at Wright State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe at Edelman Financial Services are honored once again to sponsor the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team exhibition games in Dayton,\u201d said Ric Edelman, founder and executive chairman. \u201cWe consider it a great privilege to support our veterans, who have sacrificed so much for our country and we are grateful to be part of this special event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other companies contributing to the event are Morgan Stanley, Hanger Clinic, AT&amp;T and numerous others. Individuals may choose to contribute on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WoundedWarriorSoftballinDayton\">Facebook<\/a>\u00a0or at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/dayton-warriors-softball-fund\">softball team GoFundMe site<\/a>. Companies interested in taking part or making contributions to the event are encouraged to contact WWAST-to-Dayton Committee co-chairs Scott Kuhnen (<a href=\"mailto:dayton_softball@hotmail.com\">dayton_softball@hotmail.com<\/a>) or Tim Gebard (<a href=\"mailto:gebardt@yahoo.com\">gebardt@yahoo.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team is not affiliated with other charities with the words \u201cWounded Warrior\u201d in their names.
