Wright State fine arts students are learning firsthand how to prepare, ship and set up artwork for a gallery. It’s part of “Miles Apart,” a student photography exchange between Wright State and the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University in St. Joseph, Minnesota.<\/p>\n
The project involves 18 students in Wright State assistant professor Tracy Longley-Cook’s advanced photography class. Each student selected a piece of his or her best work to contribute. Those pieces were then shipped to Minnesota, where they were displayed alongside work from 10 CSB\/SJU students. Now it’s Wright State’s turn to host the exhibition.<\/p>\n
The event allows students to put an out-of-state showing on their resumes, said Longley-Cook. They gain real-world experience framing and shipping their work as well as arranging and marketing an art exhibit.<\/p>\n
“It was really neat finding out how a gallery is set up,” said senior Adam Brixey. “The preciseness of the measurements and how everything has to work together . . . how far they are off the ground and how far they are spaced apart. It’s one of those things you take for granted when you come to a gallery.”<\/p>\n
The exhibit is on display in the Student Union Gallery until June 4. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. An opening reception will be held on May 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
