Hannah Beachler created a 400 page book envisioning what the African nation of Wakanda might look like for the film, \u201cBlack Panther.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

Long before she managed a reported $30 million arts budget for the blockbuster movie \u201cBlack Panther,\u201d\u00a0Hannah Beachler<\/b>\u00a0was a single mother with film-making aspirations at Wright State University in Fairborn.<\/p>\n

Flash forward nearly two decades and the Wright State University graduate \u2014 one of the nation\u2019s hottest\u00a0 production designers \u2014 is ready to give back to the community where her passion for film was given its wings.<\/p>\n

The Centerville High School alumna revealed her plans to start a major scholarship fund for Wright State University and Dayton-area high school students interested in careers in communications, media, film and entertainment fields to\u00a0Amelia Robinson<\/b>, the host of the \u201cWhat Had Happened Was\u201d podcast.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Beachler said following a dream is not always easy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was a single mom. I worked two jobs, and I went to school full time. If it weren\u2019t for help from others, I would not have been able to do that,\u201d she told us during the podcast interview.\u00a0\u201cI was a commuter student. There was a lot of that at Wright State, where people have families and they are going back to school and you need all the help you can get, especially nowadays.\u201d<\/p>\n

The podcast featuring Beachler will be released Aug. 1. Besides the scholarship, she talks about getting her start in the industry, overcoming high school bullies and her first film\u00a0\u2014 a \u201cSwitchblade Sisters\u201d like grindhouse movie shot with camera from the Goodwill.<\/p>\n

Beachler earned a scholarship to help pay for her son\u2019s daycare while studying at Wright State.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is really important that students are given an option to help them move forward, whether it is to pay their rent, their bills, tuition, daycare,\u201d Beachler said.<\/p>\n

In addition to her work on \u201cBlack Panther\u201d \u2014 the\u00a0Ryan Coogler\u00a0<\/b>directed\u00a0<\/b>sci-fi action adventure staring\u00a0\u00a0Chadwick Boseman\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Michael B. Jordan \u2014<\/b>Beachler won praise for her work on \u201cMoonlight,\u201d \u201cMiles Ahead,\u201d \u201cCreed\u201d and \u201cLemonade,\u201d a music video project from singer\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9.<\/b><\/p>\n

The graduate of\u00a0Wright State\u2019s film and production design program initially plans to invest $20,000 into the scholarship fund.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cIt is a really big step for me that I hope grows and I can start fostering children and young people who are interested,\u201d said Beachler who will be inducted in the Dayton Region’s walk of fame, Sep. 27.<\/p>\n

The scholarship will be named in honor of the memory of Beachler\u2019s Wright State classmate and friend\u00a0\u00a0Carol Trevino of Wilberforce.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 31-year-old was killed in an automobile accident while working on a film near Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2007. She is survived by a son and two daughters.<\/p>\n

Beachler\u2019s scholarship will be run though her foundation and be broken up into segments.<\/p>\n

Wright State students will be eligible for $2,000 and $5,000 scholarships and high-schoolers in low-income, high-crime areas will be eligible for $1,000 scholarships, she told us.<\/p>\n
