{"id":55248,"date":"2018-12-10T10:44:18","date_gmt":"2018-12-10T15:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=55248"},"modified":"2022-09-26T11:43:51","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T15:43:51","slug":"nearly-1700-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-2018-fall-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/10\/nearly-1700-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-2018-fall-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"Nearly 1,700 students to graduate at Wright State\u2019s 2018 fall commencement"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_55254\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/10\/nearly-1700-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-2018-fall-commencement\/2017-fall-commencement-_cls0699-3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55254\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55254\" class=\"size-large wp-image-55254\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2018\/12\/2017-fall-commencement-_CLS0699-508x284.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55254\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State University will hold its 2018 fall commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. in the Wright State Nutter Center.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Nearly 1,700 students are expected to graduate during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/event\/commencement\/ceremony-information\">Wright State University\u2019s 2018 fall commencement ceremony<\/a> Saturday, Dec. 15.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in the Wright State Nutter Center. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wright.edu\/event\/commencement\/ceremony-information#tickets\">Tickets are required<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The class of 2018 includes graduates with 1,010 bachelor\u2019s degrees, 602 master\u2019s, 54 doctorates of philosophy, as well as those awarded associate degrees and post-master\u2019s certificates.<\/p>\n<p>The class features graduates from 54 Ohio counties, including 1,461 from the 16 counties anchored by Wright State\u2019s Dayton and Lake campuses. Graduates hail from a total of 28 states.<\/p>\n<p>The class also includes 221 international students from 24 different nations. India boasts the largest number of foreign graduates with 107.<\/p>\n<p>The graduating students from the class range in age from 18 to 68.<\/p>\n<p>Graduates by college:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>College of Education and Human Services: 280<\/li>\n<li>College of Engineering and Computer Science: 338<\/li>\n<li>College of Liberal Arts: 240<\/li>\n<li>College of Nursing and Health: 133<\/li>\n<li>College of Science and Mathematics: 201<\/li>\n<li>Raj Soin College of Business: 373<\/li>\n<li>Lake Campus: 31<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The commencement ceremony will be broadcast live on WSU-TV on Time Warner Cable channel 21.105 in the university dorms and Fairborn and regionally on AT&amp;T Uverse channel 99 in the Dayton tab.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony can also be seen online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wright.edu\/streaming\">wright.edu\/streaming<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notable class of 2018 graduates<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_55267\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/10\/nearly-1700-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-2018-fall-commencement\/jenna-coulombe\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55267\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55267\" class=\"size-large wp-image-55267\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2018\/12\/Jenna-Coulombe-508x311.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"282\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55267\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jenna Coulombe, a crime and justice studies major, received the Liberal Arts Leadership Scholarship in recognition of her leadership activities.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Jenna Coulombe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Coulombe will receive her <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/crime-and-justice-studies\">bachelor\u2019s degree in crime and justice studies<\/a>. The single mother from Centerville is an outstanding student, carrying a 3.9 grade point average.<\/p>\n<p>Coulombe is a recipient of the Liberal Arts Leadership Scholarship, a premier scholarship awarded by the College of Liberal Arts to students engaged in leadership activities.<\/p>\n<p>Coulombe is past president of Developing Personal Vision, a student organization that helps students on campus with their life goals. She has interned at the Montgomery County Public Defender\u2019s Office and the Women\u2019s Therapeutic Court in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, where she conducted presentations covering information about drug addiction and rehabilitation. She is currently interning at the Federal Building in U.S. Pretrial Services and was just offered a position as a pre-sentence investigation and bond report writer with the Warren County Common Pleas Court.<\/p>\n<p>After graduation, Coulombe will pursue her master\u2019s degree in criminal justice at the University of Cincinnati. Her career goals are to work in environmental law or U.S. prison reform.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_55265\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/10\/nearly-1700-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-2018-fall-commencement\/19955-jim-hannah-cosm-student-marquise-crosby-2-26-18-4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55265\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55265\" class=\"size-large wp-image-55265\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2018\/12\/Marquise-Crosby-19955_001-508x341.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"309\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55265\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Research by Marquise Crosby, a biochemistry and molecular biology major, was published in Science, a top academic journal.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Marquise Crosby <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Crosby, who will graduate with a <a href=\"https:\/\/science-math.wright.edu\/biochemistry-and-molecular-biology\/bachelor-of-science-in-biochemistry-and-molecular-biology\">bachelor\u2019s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology<\/a>, co-authored a paper that was published in one of the world\u2019s top academic journals.<\/p>\n<p>Crosby\u2019s research, which involved the expression of a protein, was part of a paper published by Science, a high-impact, peer-reviewed journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The paper was titled \u201cRandom heteropolymers preserve protein function in foreign environments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his studies, Crosby worked as a lab assistant at Wright-Patterson in The Biomaterials Group of the Air Force Research Laboratory\u2019s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate. The directorate develops materials, processes and advanced manufacturing technologies for aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, rockets and ground-based systems and their structural, electronic and optical components.<\/p>\n<p>Crosby spent his early years in Oakland, California, moving to Dayton when he was 9. He was drawn to chemistry and his senior high school project involved trying to extract biofuels from algae.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating from Wright State, Crosby hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_55268\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2018\/12\/10\/nearly-1700-students-to-graduate-at-wright-states-2018-fall-commencement\/shashank-reddy-goli\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-55268\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55268\" class=\"size-large wp-image-55268\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2018\/12\/shashank-reddy-goli-508x349.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55268\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shashank Reddy Goli, who will graduate with a master\u2019s in industrial and human factors engineering, works for Tesla as a process engineer in manufacturing operations.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Shashank Reddy Goli<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Goli, who will receive his <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/biomedical-industrial-and-human-factors-engineering\/master-of-science-in-industrial-and-human-factors-engineering\">master\u2019s degree in industrial and human factors engineering<\/a>, works for Tesla as a process engineer in manufacturing operations.<\/p>\n<p>Goli landed an internship with the company in the summer of 2017 and worked for the Lean Manufacturing and Operational Excellence team at the electric-car company\u2019s manufacturing facility in Fremont, California. His job was to find better workflows, conveyance, inventory management and optimize processes throughout the factory to achieve maximum output. Tesla has had some recent financial struggles, but hit its production targets in June and turned a profit in October.<\/p>\n<p>Goli grew up in Hyderabad, India. His father, GLN Reddy, works for the Indian Railways as a senior section engineer. His mother, Janaki, a Hindi scholar with a master of arts degree, taught high school and ran her own business.<\/p>\n<p>Reddy\u2019s curiosity drew him to learn how machines interacted with human resources and material to produce finished goods. Then he wanted to learn ways to design integrated systems that optimized resources, supply chain management and ergonomics while maintaining profits.
