For nearly 50 years, the voice that echoed through the rafters\u00a0during Wright State men\u2019s basketball games has been that of the same person \u2014 Gordie Wise.<\/p>\n
On Dec. 5, Wise was honored for his 49 years of service before the Wright State men\u2019s basketball game against Miami University. Wise received a standing ovation from the crowd and was presented with a silver microphone by Bob Grant, the director of athletics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we had a Mt. Rushmore for athletics Gordie Wise would be on it,\u201d said Grant.<\/p>\n
Wise has been heavily involved with Wright State and the creation of athletics department. He served on the ad hoc committee to determine the feasibility of establishing an athletic program, drafted the first constitution for the Wright State Athletic Council and chaired the first Athletic Council. He also served for 19 years as faculty representative to the NCAA.<\/p>\n
Wright State basketball fans will always remember the long-time faculty member\u2019s phrase \u201cRaider roundball\u201d before the start of every game.<\/p>\n
\u201cI created that, I\u2019m totally blunt in saying that\u2019s mine, baby,\u201d Wise said. \u201cIt has been a blast for all of the half-century.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
