{"id":57229,"date":"2016-09-01T11:21:39","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T15:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2016\/09\/01\/early-career-achievement-9\/"},"modified":"2019-02-12T10:47:58","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T15:47:58","slug":"early-career-achievement-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2016\/09\/01\/early-career-achievement-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Early Career Achievement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mary Huber embodies Wright State\u2019s mission to transform the lives of students and the communities it serves.<\/p>\n<p>Huber, an assistant professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/education-human-services.wright.edu\/human-services\">Department of Human Services<\/a> in the College of Education and Human Services, serves Wright State and the Dayton community through many efforts.<\/p>\n<p>She is the program director for Wright State\u2019s Rehabilitation Counseling-Chemical Dependency Program. Her recent research and service efforts focus on the heroin dependency problem in Dayton and Ohio.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_57233\" style=\"width: 254px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/dialogue\/2016\/09\/early-career-achievement-9\/17507-denise-robinow-presidential-awards-for-excellence-faculty-portraits-6-1-16-5\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8249\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57233\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8249\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/dialogue\/files\/2016\/09\/17507-162-Mary-Huber-2-244x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mary Huber\" width=\"244\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-57233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mary Huber<\/p><\/div>\n<p>She conducts studies and projects in the fields of substance abuse, mental health and disability rehabilitation and seeks employment for individuals with disabilities. She has received millions of dollars from the state and federal governments to conduct community-based research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer work is truly exceptional and impactful,\u201d said Joseph E. Keferl, dean of the <a href=\"http:\/\/education-human-services.wright.edu\/\">College of Education and Human Services<\/a>. \u201cHer work ethic and collaborative style are positively impacting other faculty across the CEHS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of Huber\u2019s local community efforts involves creating a partnership called Conversations for Change between the College of Education and Human Services, Dayton police and the East End Community Center. The effort generated positive attention from the White House\u2019s Office of National Drug Control Policy.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Huber serves as the chair for the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association Research and Knowledge Committee and is the editor of the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling.<\/p>\n<p>She has mentored an international doctoral student from Mexico who is continuing to work with her during the 2016 summer.<\/p>\n<p>Huber&#8217;s mentoring efforts aren&#8217;t limited to students. She also mentors faculty members by including them in her community research, an opportunity that most newly graduated faculty do not receive.
