{"id":57585,"date":"2017-09-12T10:41:24","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T14:41:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2017\/09\/12\/outstanding-nte-faculty-teaching\/"},"modified":"2019-02-12T10:48:14","modified_gmt":"2019-02-12T15:48:14","slug":"outstanding-nte-faculty-teaching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2017\/09\/12\/outstanding-nte-faculty-teaching\/","title":{"rendered":"Outstanding NTE Faculty: Teaching"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_57589\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/dialogue\/19041-seth-bauguess-presidents-award-for-excellence-6-1-17-5\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57589\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8668\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/dialogue\/files\/2017\/07\/Joe-Tritschler-6-17-1-230x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-57589\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joe Tritschler<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Joe Tritschler, lecturer of biomedical, industrial and human factors engineering \u2014 affectionately known as \u201cCrazy Joe\u201d \u2014 won the award for Outstanding Non-Tenure Eligible (NTE) Faculty: Teaching because of his ability to relate to students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has a rapport with our students that is second to none,\u201d said Nathan Klingbeil, dean of the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/\">College of Engineering and Computer Science<\/a>. \u201cHe has the rare ability to meet students exactly where they are \u2014 to make even the least prepared students feel like they belong in the classroom every bit as much as the most prepared students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students rate Tritschler exceedingly high. His teaching evaluations are always filled with glowing praise. \u201cJoe treated all students fairly as individuals and not just as students,\u201d one student said.<\/p>\n<p>Jaime Ramirez-Vick, chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/biomedical-industrial-and-human-factors-engineering\">Department of Biomedical, Industrial and Human Factors Engineering<\/a>, said Tritschler has exceeded all expectations in teaching and service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to count Dr. Tritschler as a member of our faculty,\u201d Ramirez-Vick said. \u201cHe shows utmost dedication to his job, and through his personality contributes positively to the morale of the department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ronald Taylor, senior lecturer emeritus in the <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering-computer-science.wright.edu\/computer-science-and-engineering\">Department of Computer Science and Engineering<\/a>, said that when Tritschler was a student at Wright State, he was very involved in classes and developed communications skills that would greatly benefit students once Tritschler began teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor said that he interacted regularly with Tritschler outside the classroom and they frequently exchanged teaching tips.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI found myself becoming a better teacher based on our discussions. I think all the faculty that know that Dr. Tritschler are impressed with his effectiveness and dedication to classroom teaching,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>Tritschler said that he loves every second of his job teaching students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am always humbled by my students\u2019 expressions of gratitude for my efforts,\u201d he said. \u201cI feel it is my job to reach out to them and teach and evaluate them in a manner that is equally accessible to everyone, for then their level of achievement is up to them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/dialogue\/2017\/09\/outstanding-nte-faculty-service\/wright-state-50th-600x400\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8799\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8799\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/dialogue\/files\/2017\/07\/Wright-State-50th-600x400-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>Wright State became an independent institution in 1967 and has grown into an innovative leader in the Dayton region and beyond, capturing the spirit of the university\u2019s namesakes, Wilbur and Orville Wright, who invented the world\u2019s first successful airplane from their Dayton bicycle shop.
