{"id":67562,"date":"2019-05-03T08:55:27","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T12:55:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=67562"},"modified":"2024-07-29T12:22:13","modified_gmt":"2024-07-29T16:22:13","slug":"a-family-committed-to-wright-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2019\/05\/03\/a-family-committed-to-wright-state\/","title":{"rendered":"A family committed to Wright State"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_67574\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2019\/05\/03\/a-family-committed-to-wright-state\/20937-micah-karr-baughman-family-coming-to-wsu-4-3-19\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-67574\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67574\" class=\"size-large wp-image-67574\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2019\/05\/baugham-family-20937_012-2-508x360.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"326\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-67574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pamela Baugham attends Wright State with her twins Anna and Andy.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Baugham family has been strong advocates for Wright State for a long time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2017\/01\/23\/chain-reaction\/\">David Baugham<\/a>, the first member of the family to attend Wright State, earned his bachelor&#8217;s degree in supply chain management and was president of the Student Government Association from 2017-2018.<\/p>\n<p>His younger siblings and mother are now attending Wright State and continuing the positive tradition.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1998, the Baugham family has been in charge of a nonprofit organization that assists single parents by providing transportation and car repairs, financial support, parenting classes and general support for single parents.<\/p>\n<p>Pamela Baugham decided to go back to school to learn more about her cause. She is pursuing a <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/social-work\">bachelor&#8217;s degree in social work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really value an education, especially one that\u2019s affordable,\u201d she said. \u201cWith five of our seven family members in college, Wright State made that possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Throughout her time in the Social Work Program, Pamela has worked in practicums a few hours each week to\u00a0get experience in the field. She works with Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley, where she interacts with clients, assists in a food pantry and learns more about social work.<\/p>\n<p>Twins Anna Baugham and Andy Baugham also attend Wright State. Anna <a href=\"https:\/\/nursing.wright.edu\/\">majors in nursing<\/a>, while Andy is pursuing a <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/communication\">bachelor&#8217;s degree in communication studies<\/a>. Both have appreciated the Wright State community as well as the quality of the classes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_67582\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2019\/05\/03\/a-family-committed-to-wright-state\/david-baugham-20135_310-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-67582\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67582\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-67582\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2019\/05\/david-baugham-20135_310-260x298.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-67582\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Baugham graduated from Wright State in 2018.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe community is so good,\u201d Anna said. \u201cNot only in pre-nursing or your major, but so many groups have such open arms. It\u2019s very refreshing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andy said he also appreciates the atmosphere around campus and especially enjoys participating in the Japanese Club and Chi Alpha, a Christian group on campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an environment that\u2019s way better than high school,\u201d he said. \u201cEveryone is treating everyone as people and everyone is so fun to talk to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The whole family greatly enjoyed seeing David Baugham\u2019s work with Student Government and it encouraged them to attend Wright State and share their positive experiences with the university. Anna is considering following in her brother\u2019s footsteps and participating in Student Government. She has learned a lot from the SGA freshmen internship program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI get to interact with administration, attend SGA meetings.
