In an effort to\u00a0shape\u00a0Wright State University\u2019s future enrollment strategy, the\u00a0deans and vice presidents\u00a0met\u00a0in a retreat\u00a0that featured\u00a0one of the fathers of enrollment management.<\/p>\n

David Kalsbeek, Ph.D., senior vice president for enrollment management & marketing at DePaul University in Chicago, also shared his experience with\u00a0associate deans, college and student support\u00a0staff\u00a0and the enrollment management leadership team during the day-long retreat, which was held\u00a0August 18\u00a0in\u00a0the Student Union.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s retreat was unique because we\u2019re partnering with the academic units in this way for the first time,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Jacqueline\u00a0McMillan, Ph.D., vice president for enrollment management. \u201cWe\u2019ve come together to determine how we can be more intentional in managing our enrollment growth and supporting student academic success.\u00a0We\u2019re hoping to coordinate our efforts in ways we haven\u2019t before.\u201d<\/p>\n

McMillan said the discussions focused on using\u00a0market analysis and\u00a0research data to\u00a0support\u00a0strategic enrollment decisions,\u00a0developing academic programs\u00a0that meet both mission and market\u00a0demand,\u00a0considering alternative\u00a0delivery methods for academic programs, and strategies for optimizing financial aid and scholarship\u00a0resources.<\/p>\n

Kalsbeek\u00a0detailed\u00a0his experience at DePaul, which has seen its enrollment grow 20 percent over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n

He discussed the\u00a0history and evolution of enrollment management and its core concepts. He talked about\u00a0models that characterize institutions that have become more intentional in shaping their enrollment outcomes, including student success and degree completion.<\/p>\n

\u201cEnrollment is not just something that happens to an institution,\u201d Kalsbeek said. \u201cIt isn\u2019t just a function of demography; it isn\u2019t just a function of the programs you offer. You can deliberately shape the profile, the quality, the mix of the students that come through\u00a0by mobilizing institutional resources.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kalsbeek said the key to good enrollment management is to effectively collaborate among all units, including\u00a0the colleges,\u00a0admissions, financial aid, marketing and student services.\u00a0Objectives can include improvements in enrollment, program mix, pricing, diversity, access, graduation, employment outcomes and student satisfaction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
