For 20 straight years the students have been coming south to perform trail maintenance on the Appalachian Trail.<\/p>\n<p>The students have worked with various groups throughout the years to find the parts of the trail where their labor can do the most good.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the students joined forces with the Southern Appalachian Work Center and the work center\u2019s partner, the Mount Rogers Outfitters. As SAWD spokesman Jim Chambers said in his briefings on the day\u2019s activities, they \u201censured that all trails in the Roan High Country are on the way to long-term preservation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chambers said the anniversary day began with a \u201crobust\u201d climb of more than 2,500 feet in elevation to Hump Mountain \u201cwith an extreme amount of gear to ensure that our mission was accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chambers complemented the Wright State group. \u201cAs always with the Wright State students, our new trail vision was nearly accomplished before we stopped for lunch. As always with Wright State University, there was major trail construction accomplished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year, the students worked on the section of trail between Doll Flats and Hump Mountain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of this event, there will be additional attention to trail preservation in this region \u2026 as well as use management possibilities north of Hump Mountain,\u201d Chambers said.<\/p>\n<p>Chambers said Wright State\u2019s work has been supported by other trail maintenance groups as the Southern Appalachian Work Center has grown.
