{"id":7416,"date":"2011-09-06T16:04:09","date_gmt":"2011-09-06T20:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=7416"},"modified":"2019-07-23T11:12:36","modified_gmt":"2019-07-23T15:12:36","slug":"wright-state-ranked-in-community-service-top-ten","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2011\/09\/06\/wright-state-ranked-in-community-service-top-ten\/","title":{"rendered":"Wright State ranked in community service top ten"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2011\/08\/02\/we-serve-u-donation-drive\/usac_weserveyoulogo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6723\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-6723\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2011\/08\/USAC_WeServeYouLogo1-e1312309658414-260x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a>Wright State University has been named to a top ten list of universities for community service according to <em>The Washington Monthly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Huffington Post included the rankings on its website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2011\/09\/01\/slideshow_n_945940.html#s348286&amp;title=No_8_Wright\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Specifically citing the We Serve U program, which encourages staff to contribute time and skills to community service projects, Wright State was ranked eighth in the country.<\/p>\n<p>For more about We Serve U visit their website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wright.edu\/weserveu\/\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s wonderful to be identified on this list,&#8221; said Cathy Sayer, director of service learning.\u00a0 &#8220;We really see ourselves, not so much as giving back to our community, as working <em>with <\/em>and <em>within <\/em>it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our mission is to transform the region and the lives of our students through significant service,&#8221; said Sayer. &#8220;Our institutional heart beats within this community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We Serve U is currently collecting classroom supplies across campus for the Westwood School in Dayton.<\/p>\n<p>We Serve U co-chair Jacqui Neal says the program is all about getting the staff more organized and integrated into an already-flourishing community service campus community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents are already doing a lot on campus, but professionals can offer things in community service that students often can\u2019t,\u201d said Neal. \u201cWe want to tap into that resource in a more organized way with We Serve U.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Primarily, We Serve U aims to organize at least four community service opportunities each year for Wright State professionals, posting essential information about the events on the We Serve U website.
