Wright State students came together to march for climate change awareness and protest the use of fossil fuels.<\/p>\n

The march took place on Sept. 27 on the Dayton Campus and Colonel Glenn Hwy. Students carried signs and chanted in their efforts to have their message heard.<\/p>\n

Ian Crumrine, a senior earth and environmental science major, and Shannon Collins, a graduate environmental science student, organized the march. It was inspired by a series of climate strikes occurring on college campuses and around the world over the past week.<\/p>\n

Crumrine said one of the main goals of the march was to educate people who may not know much about climate change.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople in Ohio, we feel aren\u2019t very educated on the issues,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s not really a voice to let them know what\u2019s going on. We feel by giving that cause a voice it will lead to more action being taken.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their efforts brought numerous students out to the march and led to a conversation with a member of the Student Government Association about what can be done in the future on Wright State\u2019s campus. One idea that was suggested was composting.<\/p>\n

\u201cFood waste that goes into the trash can be diverted from the landfill and get composted instead,” Collins said. “The food waste that gets put into the landfill contributes to methane emissions and contributes to global warming.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
