The ceremony is a rite of passage for the 27 sophomores, who have a projected graduation date of May 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI chose this career because I want to make an impact on others and give back to the community,\u201d said Lydia Schmitz, a nursing student from Fort Recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Family and friends were in attendance Oct. 2 to support their students as they recited the Code of Student \u00a0Conduct and signed an oath\u00a0signifying their commitment to their studies and to the nursing profession.<\/p>\n<p>The oath stated, \u201cI, as a student of the Wright State University Lake Campus <a href=\"https:\/\/nursing.wright.edu\/\">College of Nursing and Health<\/a> commit to uphold the standards of the profession by demonstrating academic integrity, personal honor, clinical professionalism throughout my educational endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Code of Conduct is a statement of professional behavior founded on professional values, ideals and obligations in nursing, and an agreement to uphold quality and safety standards in a patient-centered care model,\u201d said Lynn M. Franck, director of the B.S.N. program at Lake Campus. It is based on national standards and an understanding that society has great trust in the nursing profession to provide safe and competent care.<\/p>\n<p>Each student received a lapel pin in the shape of the Nightingale lamp, named for Florence Nightingale. It signifies a beacon of comfort and kindness, gentleness and courage, and an unwavering devotion to duty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always wanted to work in the medical field, but I realized I wanted to be a nurse after my first job at a nursing home taking care of residents,\u201d said nursing student Chloe Grube of Celina.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen Keller, a nursing student from Fort Recovery, had a similar sentiment. \u201cI chose the career of nursing because I have always wanted to be able to help others and make a difference while also having an interest in the medical field,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Other students decided to become nurses after family members had positive experiences with their nurses. \u201cAfter seeing my grandpa interact with his nurse when he had cancer and the relationship they had, I knew that was what I wanted to do,\u201d said Cassidy Sinning of Van Wert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI chose this career because I\u2019ve seen family members and friends go through different health issues and I\u2019ve seen the way nurses have impacted their lives,\u201d said Hannah Kramer, a nursing student from Osgood.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI chose this career because I wanted to help individuals in their time of need,&#8221; noted student Morgan Keuther of Minster. \u201cI have witnessed family members receive the best quality help from their nurses and I have looked up to nurses since then as a result.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inductees included:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kylee Black, Coldwater<br \/>\nAshley Bowen, Willshire<br \/>\nJada Gaier, Fort Loramie<br \/>\nChloe Grube, Celina<br \/>\nElizabeth Heinrichs, Celina<br \/>\nKirsten Homan, Coldwater<br \/>\nPaige Hoyng, Coldwater<br \/>\nKristen Keller, Fort Recovery<br \/>\nHannah Kramer, Osgood<br \/>\nMorgan Kuether, Minster<br \/>\nTyler Ledyard, Delphos<br \/>\nCorinne McPheron, Lima<br \/>\nKayla Mueller, Spencerville<br \/>\nLinda Perkins, Anna<br \/>\nSeth Pierron, Maria Stein<br \/>\nCassie Pohlman, Osgood<br \/>\nKelsi Poppe, Indian Lake<br \/>\nMikayla Recker, Findlay<br \/>\nAlexis Richard, Wapakoneta<br \/>\nNatalie Riethman, Van Wert<br \/>\nLydia Schmitz, Fort Recovery<br \/>\nBrianna Schneider, Coldwater<br \/>\nAbbey Sheeter, Delphos<br \/>\nMichaela Siefring, Burkettsville<br \/>\nCassidy Sinning, Van Wert<br \/>\nStephanie Walter, Celina<br \/>\nCourtney Williams, St. Marys<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_76485\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2019\/10\/25\/students-inducted-into-wright-state-university-lake-campus-nursing-program\/lake-nursing-pinning-audience-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-76485\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76485\" class=\"size-large wp-image-76485\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2019\/10\/Lake-Nursing-Pinning-audience-1-508x241.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"218\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-76485\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Family and friends joined their students in Dicke Hall on Wright State\u2019s Lake Campus for the College of Nursing and Health\u2019s induction ceremony.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This fall, the 73 students in the Lake campus nursing program are benefiting from expanded space in Andrews Hall, providing more opportunities for hands-on training. The 7,000-square-foot extension includes the Nursing Simulation Learning Resource Center, a science education classroom, science research lab and a 1,660-square-foot open concept library.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2019\/10\/11\/grand-opening-of-extension-to-andrews-hall-at-lake-campus-draws-state-government-leaders\/\">new nursing simulation lab<\/a> includes six beds and manikins for students to practice skill development on multiple patients at the same time. The high-fidelity simulator allows nursing students to participate in simulation scenarios to improve their critical thinking and assessment skills in a safe environment. Students can administer medications, assess heart and lung sounds, insert catheters and provide CPR to the manikin while under the supervision of nursing faculty members.<\/p>\n<p>A grand opening celebration of the extension to Andrews Hall was held on Oct. 10 and attracted top state government officials, as well as Wright State and local business and community leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Last spring the Lake Campus graduated its first nursing cohort of 14 students.
