{"id":79875,"date":"2019-12-19T09:06:48","date_gmt":"2019-12-19T14:06:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=79875"},"modified":"2024-01-04T14:50:20","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T19:50:20","slug":"ddn-wright-state-names-science-and-mathematics-dean-as-interim-provost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2019\/12\/19\/ddn-wright-state-names-science-and-mathematics-dean-as-interim-provost\/","title":{"rendered":"Dayton Daily News: Wright State names science and mathematics dean as interim provost"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Excerpt<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_79270\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79270\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-79270\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2019\/12\/Leaman-Douglas-10-16-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-79270\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Douglas Leaman<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Douglas Leaman, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, has agreed to serve as interim provost of Wright State University.<\/p>\n<p>The university announced Friday that effective Jan. 1, Leaman will assume the new position as current Provost Susan Edwards becomes the university\u2019s new president on that date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder Dr. Leaman\u2019s leadership, the Wright State College of Science and Mathematics has fostered an environment aimed at providing all students with hands-on opportunities to conduct meaningful work in their chosen field, including identifying undergraduate research, internship, externship, co-op, or shadowing opportunities,\u201d Edwards said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n<p>Leaman earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in animal sciences and master\u2019s degree in molecular growth and development from The Ohio State University. He earned a Ph.D in molecular biology and reproductive physiology from the University of Missouri.<\/p>\n<p>Before joining Wright State, Leaman served as chair and professor of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toledo, project scientist at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center and scientific director of Gemini Technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Leaman is an innate immunologist, specializing in biochemical and physiological aspects of host-virus interactions,\u201d Edwards said. \u201cHe continues to run a successful research laboratory, giving him insight into current trends in the life and physical sciences and an advantage in an administrative position that requires a strong appreciation of the role that faculty scholarship plays in the education of future Wright State graduates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a release, WSU said the university intends to conduct a search in fall 2020 for the permanent position of provost.<\/p>\n<p>View the original post at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.daytondailynews.com\/news\/local\/wsu-names-science-and-mathematics-dean-interim-provost\/j7D0WAfMW2jECmJdCEZl1J\/\">daytondailynews.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Excerpt Douglas Leaman, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, has agreed to serve as interim provost of Wright State University.
