{"id":86061,"date":"2020-04-16T14:05:32","date_gmt":"2020-04-16T18:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=86061"},"modified":"2024-01-04T15:08:51","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T20:08:51","slug":"ddn-laptops-technology-rentals-available-for-wright-state-sinclair-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2020\/04\/16\/ddn-laptops-technology-rentals-available-for-wright-state-sinclair-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Dayton Daily News: Laptops, technology rentals available for Wright State, Sinclair students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Excerpt<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-85867\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2020\/04\/pic11199890-260x146.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"146\" \/>Hundreds of laptops, smartphones and cameras have been distributed to Wright State University and Sinclair Community College students to help them continue their studies remotely.<\/p>\n<p>The items are loaned out through Wright State\u2019s Computing and Telecommunications (CaTS) office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">Equipment distributed includes Mac and HP laptops, smartphones for WiFi hotspots, USB microphones and portable documents cameras.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">All classes at Wright State have been transitioned to remote learning through the spring semester due to the coronavirus pandemic. Most summer classes have also been moved to remote learning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">Nearly 300 pieces of equipment has been checked out, including 200 laptops.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost popular are the laptops which have built-in webcams and mics,\u201d said Kenneth Coon, associate chief information officer.<\/p>\n<p>Technology distributions are made from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at a table outside Wright State\u2019s Dunbar Library.<\/p>\n<p>Safety precautions are being taken to protect students picking up equipment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has been very appreciative to have CaTS on campus helping hand out technology for teaching\/learning remotely,\u201d said Coon. \u201cMost customers tell us how difficult it has been transitioning from campus to home, but that they are slowly getting used to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program is open to students, staff and faculty and was recently expanded to Sinclair students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to thank Wright State for extending its technology loan program to Sinclair students in need,\u201d said Kimberly Collins, director of university partnerships at Sinclair. \u201cThis effort is ongoing and many of our students have expressed how appreciative they are to Wright State for making these resources available to them.
