{"id":86347,"date":"2020-04-21T09:19:16","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T13:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=86347"},"modified":"2024-01-04T14:59:58","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T19:59:58","slug":"ddn-with-enrollment-down-wright-state-freezes-spending-cuts-administrators-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2020\/04\/21\/ddn-with-enrollment-down-wright-state-freezes-spending-cuts-administrators-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"Dayton Daily News: With enrollment down, Wright State freezes spending, cuts administrators\u2019 pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Excerpt<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-86355\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2020\/04\/Screen-Shot-2020-04-21-at-9.17.47-AM-260x170.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"170\" \/>With universities statewide closed to on-campus instruction, Wright State University is cutting administrators\u2019 salaries, freezing contracts and capital projects \u2014 and leaders may consider a workforce reduction, university leaders said in a campus email Monday.<\/p>\n<p>With enrollment down due to the global pandemic, state government has recently informed university leaders to prepare for a \u201csignificant reduction in what is remaining of this year\u2019s state share of instruction,\u201d the university said in the email.<\/p>\n<p>Refunds or credits due to students exceed $3 million and summer enrollment has been hit, resulting in a \u201cdecrease of 17 percent\u201d for summer enrollment, the university said.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Wright State President Sue Edwards, with the university provost, vice presidents, vice provosts and deans have \u201cvoluntarily agreed to take a 20 percent reduction in salary (or stipend for Deans),\u201d Wright State said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, a hold has been placed on \u201call non-critical university-funded capital projects,\u201d new contractual agreements for goods and services have been frozen, and \u201call discretionary non-compensation spending\u201d has been eliminated, the email said.<\/p>\n<p>Campus facilities will be left in \u201ca low energy usage mode\u201d where possible, the university also said.<\/p>\n<p>Wright State added that workforce cuts may be considered at some point in the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo date, Wright State has been committed to maintaining all personnel and positions. The state of Ohio has indicated they will release a plan addressing the return to work for Ohio businesses this week.
