Juliet Corcillo is a student at the Boonshoft School of Medicine and serves in the U.S. Air Force.<\/p><\/div>\n

A second-year student at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine arrived in New York City April 10 with plans to work at an area hospital through mid-June.<\/p>\n

Juliet Corcillo grew up in Staten Island and says she is proud to be helping residents of her home state.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe provide our patients with the comfort and care that they need in order to continue their recovery until they are healthy enough to return home,\u201d Corcillo said in a written statement. \u201cI am working with a group of amazing current and prior military medical professionals and special forces members. They range from doctors to EMTs and everyone in between.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Once serving as a medic in the Air Force, Corcillo has been performing basic nursing skills at Ryan Larkin Field Hospital inside Columbia University\u2019s indoor soccer field: obtaining vital signs, completing patient assessments and doing rounds with health care providers.<\/p>\n

She is also the team leader of the crash team, which operates as a mini emergency department inside of a smaller tent within the field hospital where critical or decompensating patients may be treated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cNew York is my home state. After taking my STEP 1 exam, I was sitting at home in Ohio doing absolutely nothing,\u201d Corcillo said. \u201cI found the post on North American Rescue\u2019s webpage and jumped on it immediately. I felt compelled to help. This feels like my 9\/11.\u201d<\/p>\n
