All goes well until a pre-natal test reveals the baby will be born with Down syndrome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJasmine Batchelor turns in one of the year\u2019s best performances, profound work that twists an already propulsive concept into a riveting character study,\u201d says the film industry publication Indiewire. Says Variety: \u201cIn Batchelor\u2019s compelling lead performance, good intentions jostle against self-deception. The pathos of Jess\u2019 unstated but overwhelming maternal needs stir empathy even when her actions exasperate everyone around her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can stream &#8220;The Surrogate&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neonmovies.com\">online through The Neon&#8217;s website<\/a> beginning June 17.<\/p>\n<p>Batchelor, a recipient of a Tom Hanks Scholarship, graduated from Wright State in 2010 with a <a href=\"https:\/\/liberal-arts.wright.edu\/theatre-dance-and-motion-pictures\/bachelor-of-fine-arts-in-acting\">bachelor of fine arts in acting<\/a>. While at Wright State, she starred as Sabina in \u201cThe Skin of Our Teeth\u201d and as Ruth Younger in \u201cA Raisin in the Sun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following graduation, Batchelor moved to New York City and enrolled in the world-renowned Juilliard School.
