{"id":9307,"date":"2011-11-22T08:15:34","date_gmt":"2011-11-22T12:15:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=9307"},"modified":"2021-09-10T13:44:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-10T17:44:12","slug":"come-one-come-all-to-the-29th-annual-madrigal-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2011\/11\/22\/come-one-come-all-to-the-29th-annual-madrigal-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Come one, come all to Madrigal Dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_9309\" style=\"width: 245px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2011\/11\/22\/come-one-come-all-to-the-29th-annual-madrigal-dinner\/madrigal2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9309\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9309\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9309\" src=\"http:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2011\/11\/Madrigal2-235x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Bill Rickert and a woman dressed in Renaissance garb.\" width=\"235\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9309\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bill Rickert will preside at the head table as \u201cLord of the Manor,\u201d a role he has played for the last 27 years.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wright State University\u2019s Student Union Apollo Room will be transformed into an English manor of the Renaissance era for the 29th annual Madrigal Dinner from Thursday, Dec. 8, through Sunday, Dec. 11.<\/p>\n<p>The Madrigal Dinner invites attendees to step back into a holiday celebration as it would have happened in the Middle Ages.<\/p>\n<p>The evening begins with a reception featuring wassail, a traditional hot, holiday drink.<\/p>\n<p>After the reception, guests will be summoned to the table by a fanfare and view the procession of the lords and ladies accompanied by the Wright State Chamber Singers.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner will follow the procession of the boar\u2019s head, an ancient yuletide custom. Guests will enjoy a medieval feast of stuffed turkey breast, beef and leek pie, plum pudding and many other delicious dishes.<\/p>\n<p>Entertainment will be provided by lords and ladies, roving musicians, marionettes, singers, dancers and a court jester\u2014all in full Renaissance attire.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, Bill Rickert will preside at the head table as \u201cLord of the Manor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t missed a night in the last 27 years,\u201d said Rickert, a recently retired associate provost and professor emeritus of communication. \u201cIt seems each one is better than the last.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Music will be directed by Drew Collins, assistant professor of music, and performed by the Wright State University Chamber Singers. Dancers and bearers are members of the Tudor Rose Dance Company, a group dedicated to recreating the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
