{"id":93490,"date":"2020-08-12T09:49:59","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T13:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/?p=93490"},"modified":"2024-01-04T14:48:13","modified_gmt":"2024-01-04T19:48:13","slug":"ddn-wright-state-waives-fees-test-requirements-to-new-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/2020\/08\/12\/ddn-wright-state-waives-fees-test-requirements-to-new-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Dayton Daily News: Wright State waives fees, test requirements to new students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Excerpt<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_86355\" style=\"width: 470px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86355\" class=\"size-large wp-image-86355\" src=\"https:\/\/webapp2.wright.edu\/web1\/newsroom\/files\/2020\/04\/Screen-Shot-2020-04-21-at-9.17.47-AM-508x333.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"302\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-86355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wright State University&#8217;s Dayton Campus<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Joining a growing national movement, Wright State University is allowing undergraduate students to apply for the 2021 summer or fall semester for free \u2014 and it\u2019s also freeing first-year students of the requirement to have ACT or SAT test scores.<\/p>\n<p>Both policy changes apply to applicants at Wright State\u2019s Fairborn and Lake campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Waiving the application fee and testing requirement will remove barriers that some students and families may encounter because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rob Durkle, Wright State\u2019s chief recruitment and admissions officer, said in a university release Tuesday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-section b-margin-bottom-d40-m20 \">\n<div class=\"c-contentElements\">\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">&#8220;We want to open up even more opportunities to provide greater access for students who want to attend college,&#8221; Durkle said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">\u201cWe know that money is tight and times are tough,\u201d said Jen McCamis, WSU director of admissions. \u201cWe want to make sure we are serving our community as we work to help students get to college.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"c-section b-margin-bottom-d40-m20 \">\n<div class=\"c-contentElements\">\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">The test-optional admissions process allows students to apply with or without test scores, WSU said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">\u201cBecause the coronavirus pandemic caused the cancellation of many ACT and SAT test dates in the spring, many students were unable to take the tests,\u201d Wright State said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text b-margin-bottom-d40-m20\">The University of North Carolina system of schools made a similar announcement three weeks ago, saying standardized test scores won\u2019t be required for 2021 admission.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, this trend has been ongoing for months.
