The Wright State women\u2019s volleyball team and men’s soccer team received their 2019 Horizon League championship rings during socially distanced ceremonies.<\/p>\n
The volleyball team\u2019s celebration took place in the McLin Gymnasium on Sept. 18. Players and coaches were treated to a highlight video of their championship season along with their championship rings.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the past couple of weeks we\u2019ve had a couple of really neat and unique celebrations,\u201d said Bob Grant, director of athletics.<\/p>\n
In 2019, the volleyball team was the first team in Wright State athletics history to receive an at-large bid to an NCAA Tournament. The Raiders won 24 matches and claimed the volleyball program\u2019s first Horizon League regular season championship.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s soccer team received their championship rings at Alumni Field on Sept. 23. Players sat in the bleachers until their names were announced on the stadium speaker system. Coaches and President Sue Edwards presented each player with a ring.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is everyone’s goal to get that NCAA ring and to see the excitement on their faces is really, really rewarding,\u201d said Grant.<\/p>\n
Family and friends were unable to attend both events in person but were able to watch the ceremony via Facebook Live stream.<\/p>\n
The men’s soccer team won the 2019 Horizon League tournament, earning the program’s first trip to the NCAA Championship. The Raiders upset Notre Dame 3\u20132 in the first round of the tournament before losing in the second round to Michigan on penalty kicks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
