Wright State University Center for Healthy Communities offers seminar on ethical dilemmas for health, social services professionals

Health care and social service providers work to promote the well-being of their clients. But sometimes they face ethical dilemmas. A situation might require them to make a choice between different sets of values.

To help social workers, counselors and nurses in the Dayton area better understand ethical dilemmas, the Center for Healthy Communities of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine is offering a seminar on Tuesday, June 11, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the Madison Lakes Learning and Conference Center (581 Olive Road) in Dayton. Registration, refreshments and resource tables open at 8 a.m.

Bonnie Parish, LISW, LPCC, executive director of the Family Service Association of the Greater Miami Valley, will be the presenter. The seminar will examine several conflicts and ways to identify, clarify, address and determine appropriate options when facing ethical decisions and problems. Participants will discuss the ethical principles that govern professional relationships, learn about the difference between enabling and empowering clients, identify ways to maintain professional boundaries in the client relationship and analyze issues of confidentiality.

The Center for Healthy Communities HealthLink and the Ohio State Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Region IV present the annual series of continuing education quarterly seminars for health care professionals and interested community members. There is a $10 nonrefundable registration fee and an additional $10 fee for continuing education credits. Payment must be received by May 30. Space is limited.
