Nearly 2,000 runners will participate in the United State Air Force and Wright State University 5K (3.1 miles) race on Friday, Sept. 16.
The race will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held entirely on the Wright State campus, with the start and finish at the Nutter Center. The entire Wright State community is welcome to stay on campus to watch the race and cheer on those participating.
The 5K event will be followed on Saturday by a 10K race, half-marathon (13.1 miles) and full marathon (26.2 miles). The courses for most of the Saturday events will include portions of the Wright State campus.
A full field of participants is expected for the half-marathon (5,000) and marathon (3,000). Coupled with the 5K, there will be some 10,000 runners on the campus for the three events. Both Wright State and the Nutter Center are among the marathon sponsors. The university has been involved in the event for the past five years.
The Sports and Fitness Expo that is part of the marathon festivities will be held at the Nutter Center. More than 200 Wright State volunteers will be involved in the running activities, and university personnel will staff a marathon medical aid station.
Parking and Road Closures:
To ensure the safety of the runners and the campus community, numerous parking lots and roads on the Wright State campus will close Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. and will reopen when the race is completed, sometime around 7:15 p.m.
If you will be on campus after 5:30 p.m. Friday, you are strongly encouraged to park in lots # 1, 2, 3, and 4 as these will be the ONLY parking lots open with access to University Boulevard (and Colonel Glenn Highway) between 6:00 and 7:15 p.m.
Students, if you have class Friday afternoon and plan to leave campus before 7:15 p.m., please make sure to park in these lots (#1, 2, 3, and 4). If you arrive before 6:00 p.m. and plan to leave after 7:15 p.m., you will have entrance and egress from your usual parking lot.
Those families planning to pick up children from Wright State University’s childcare center, Mini University, after 6:00 p.m. should access campus via Kauffman Road. Parents are asked to park next to the practice soccer field, across from Mini University.
