Wright State University student researchers are investigating how to build more comfortable artificial limbs for war veterans, and a Dayton area manufacturer could build the new design if it has a patent.
If successful, the project could have a positive impact for thousands of veterans who live with prosthetics that can cause skin rashes, blistering and discomfort.
Since World War II, vets have suffered nearly 27,000 amputations. The Dayton VA served 60 amputee veterans and made 37 artificial limbs last year, according to medical center statistics.
