“911. What’s your emergency?”
The most used phone number in the U.S. is always answered by calm, hard-working dispatchers ready to send help in emergency situations.
Staff from Wright State’s Emergency Communication Center are being recognized the week of April 10-16 by Wright State and the university Police Department as part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Appreciation Week.
The week serves as a time for the community to thank the dedicated professionals who staff the Police Department’s Emergency Communication Center.
The operators serve the community by answering calls for police, fire and emergency medical services and by dispatching the appropriate resources as quickly as possible.
“I salute the Emergency Communications Center operators who answer the call and save lives every day at Wright State University,” said Chief of Police David Finnie. “The Wright State Police Department proudly recognizes the dedicated men and women who stand ready to help the Raider community in need every day.”
Operators have a challenging job, assisting police officers, addressing telephone and walk-in traffic and making sure resources are directed efficiently and without unnecessary delay. Operators are often the first point of contact for people in need.
Wright State’s Communication Center operators monitor activities by radio, provide essential information and insure the safety of students, faculty and staff. They are known for their compassion, understanding and professionalism.
Finnie believes it has never been more apparent that emergency operators are a critical part of public safety because the actions of Communications Center staff consistently saves lives.
“The Emergency Communications Center operator continues to be an invaluable resource, and the Wright State University Police Department salutes its team of professionals who are so committed to excellence,” said Finnie.
