Always looking for a chance to volunteer, the Wright State University men’s and women’s basketball teams participated in community outreach events in metro Detroit last weekend.
The Wright State women’s team played basketball with children at the Boys & Girls Club of SE on Jan. 5. The Raiders played at Oakland the day before and before traveling to Detroit Mercy on Jan. 6 they volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club.
“It was really fun to see the kids interact with us and they were excited to see us,” said Symone Simmons, a junior guard on the women’s basketball team.
On Jan. 6 the Wright State men’s team visited the Children’s Hospital of Michigan and create activity packets for pediatric patients to use during their time in the hospital.
“Doing something like that in Detroit where we’re not usually helping out or ever there except one time a year is really something special,” said Grant Benzinger, a senior guard on the men’s basketball team.
Both men’s and women’s teams won their basketball games during their weekend visits to the Motor City.
