Cheers and clapping could be heard throughout the Wright State University Student Union on Friday night.
The campus hosted a watch party in the Union Market for students, faculty, staff and alumni to gather and watch the 16th-seeded Wright State men’s basketball team compete against No. 1 Arizona Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
“It’s been really fun to see all of the excitement on campus,” said Jenna Steward, a senior majoring in organizational leadership who attended the watch party.
Four large televisions were set up and Chartwells donated pizzas, subs, popcorn and drinks.
The Raiders fell to the Wildcats 87–70. The loss closes out a season that saw Wright State win more than 20 games for the sixth time in seven years.
“They have the support here on campus and they’re being rooted on from all over Raider Country,” said Jonathan Ciero, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering and Student Government president.
The watch party crowd continued to clap for the Raiders even after the game ended.
“It just makes the campus feel electric,” said Gina Keucher, Student Involvement and Leadership program director. “Win or lose they were so much fun to watch this season.”
